Abberton Cricket Club have announced the sad news that on the 19th July 2018 a true club legend Peter Brown was taken far too soon.

Those who have played games with and against Peter will know that he was one the best batsman wicket keepers in his time, and was a major part of the successful Abberton side of the nineties. Over the years he achieved some breathtaking stats for the club, by far and away the leading wicket keeper for the club, making 563 dismissals (407 catches and 156 stumpings). With the bat he scored over 11500 runs, which included eleven centuries and 63 fifties.

A former teammate of Peter was quoted ‘Browny was a lad who you could only love, I can’t imagine anyone who knew him could feel anything else. Lost soul maybe but a friend to us all xx’

A true friend and comedian that the club and members will never forget. Our thoughts and condolences are with Peter’s family, friends and former teammates at this sad time.

In the driest of summers, the ironically named It's Not Really Wet Rain, is a recommended read for any cricketer. Written by highly respected cricketer Simon Swinn, the book maps the first seventy years of Abberton Cricket Club, the most successful NECL club. Many landmarks for the club are charted against modern history milestones in an entertaining way.

To reserve your copy at £10, contact Marc Fox on 07540 256560 or via the Abberton website or facebook page.

Harpenden Cavaliers, are basing their 2018 tour in Colchester, from 15-17 June 2018. They are still looking for a 40ov/timed games on Saturday 16 June. This will be their 20th tour, having previously been all over the UK, and they invariably get invited back, which must be a good sign! They play competitive cricket but in a great spirit, and always put plenty of cash behind their hosts' bars.
