Rob George, a talented cricketer who played for Colchester & East Essex CC, died last December, aged just 21, from acute myeloid leukaemia. A charity, The Rob George Foundation, has been set up in his memory to provide practical and/or financial support to young people with life-threatening or terminal illnesses. Last June, Mel Hughes played his 1,000th match for West Mersea CC, a Piri Piri NECL Division Four game at home to Great Braxted & Tiptree CC on 9 June 2013. This significant achievement was duly reported (+ photograph) in a feature article on the back page of the Daily Gazette on 12 June 2013. It has now been recorded for posterity on page 1571 of the 2014 (151st) edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack: see below. Congratulations to Mel, and to West Mersea CC.
