Dissapointingly, Elmstead have notified the league that they are to withdraw their team from Division One with immediate effect, citing the problem of Sunday availability as the issue for their withdrawal. They did win their opening game of the season against champions Wivenhoe, albeit with ten players, however, writing was probably on the wall with the next two games being conceded with only a handful of players available.
Elmstead were in their 40th season in the NECL having joined in 1979. They were champions of the competition in 1987, and claimed seven further divisional championships in their time in the competition, the most recent the Division One title in 2012. They had a second team in the competition as recently as 2014. Individually, Elmstead players have claimed eleven batting and bowling honours, with Jordan Elliott (Batting) and Ryan Vickery (Bowling) claiming Division One honours in 2017.
With one of the best grounds in the area they will be sorely missed by many a visiting cricketer.
All results involving Elmstead this season will be expunged from the league table, which will be updated in due course.
