North Essex Cricket League

With the new season fast approaching, the umpire appointments for Div 1, Div 2 and T20, for April and May are now available under the Umpires tab on the website. Remember the home team is responsible for contacting the umpire in the event of a cancellation through bad weather or concession (although it would be courteous of a conceding club to do so also).

The league have received notification from Braintree CC that following their AGM and concern about sufficient player resources on a Sunday in 2019, they have reluctantly made the decision to withdraw from the NECL.

This will unfortunately, reduce the second division to six teams, meaning just ten fixtures in the campaign. Once again we would implore clubs in the Second Division to re-arrange rained off and conceded games where possible, so as to maximise cricket in the division.

Due to withdrawing after the League AGM, Braintree will be fined £100 as per Rule 12 of the league rules.

Hello fellow NECL teams

Now all the fixtures are out we at Springfield CC are looking for a few clubs who might fancy doing something a bit different on Sunday 16th June.

Last year we teamed up with Farleigh Hospice with the aim of raising a few ££ for Charity and one of the things we organised was a Charity cricket day. We are looking to put on a tournament again with 8 teams of eight a side. Every team will be guaranteed to play 3/4 games throughout the afternoon and alongside the cricket there will be copious amounts of food and drink (home made ciders and local beers and much more) on offer as well as stalls and stuff for the sprogs to do if you'd like to bring the whole family.

Each game lasts 7 overs per side (everyone bowling 1 over/retire on 25 etc) and it was a great laugh last year... a bit of a whackathon! And we managed to raise £1500 for Farleigh.
The cost of entry is £50 a team (all proceeds go to charity)

We will be looking to get going at 12.30pm so it you'd like to enter a team on the 16th June please let me know

Many thanks

Paul Durrant, Springfield CC

Sudbury Cricket Club will be holding a six a side competition on Sunday 21st July, commencing at 10am.

There is room for eight sides to take part in two groups of four, so three games for each side. Entry is on a first come, first served basis, and the cost per team will be £30.

On the day, there will be a Bar, BBQ and raffle, etc.

Application forms are available from Ted Clarkson - 01787 310714 or by e-mail

The 12 players selected for each of the Divisional Teams of the Year are listed below, and are my own personal opinion and statistically based. Because of the number of games lost through concessions and voids, to qualify, players have had to have played three games in Division One, five games in Division Two and Three, and three games in the T20.
No prizes are awarded for being selected in the Team of the Year, just the prestige of being one of the 48 players selected.

Please find attached the individual averages for 2018, as confirmed by the Management Committee last night. Players who have topped the averages will be presented with trophies on the night of the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24th October starting at 7pm. More details of the evening will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

There will be an e-mail sent to Club Reps over the weekend confirming this meeting. Clubs are invited to attend this meeting, with specific regard to the structure of NECL cricket in 2019. This will be an opportunity for clubs to discuss formats and constitution of the competition for next season. I will be sending the 2019 NECL Participation Questionnaire responses to club reps in the e-mail. There are still responses from five clubs to come, so if they can return as soon as possible that would be helpul -- 7 Para RHA, Braintree, Clacton, Coggeshall and Kelvedon.

Congratulations to Wivenhoe as they have this morning been confirmed as NECL Champions for a second successive season, following Galleywood's concession to them this coming Sunday.

As we get to the last knockings of the 2018 it is time to look ahead and start the preparation for next season. To that end, clubs are invited to submit possible rule changes to be considered by the Management Committee, and then the AGM. The league have received an application from Sudbury Cricket Club to join the NECL in 2019, and applications are welcome from any other club wishing to take part in Sunday cricket whether it is the longer format or the T20 competition. A consultation paper was also sent to league reps of member clubs regarding their views on the future format of the NECL - if that can be returned then that would also useful to the Management Committee's discussions regarding 2019.

Finally, please advise at your earliest convenience of any intention to withdraw from the competition in 2019, the league have already been notified by Chappel & Wakes Colne and Eight Ash Green that they will be withdrawing.

Please e-mail any rule changes, applications or withdrawals to by Sunday 23rd September. The Management Committee will be meeting prior to the AGM on Thursday 26th September to discuss rules changes and constitution for 2019 amongst other things.

It has come to the attention of the league that there are a number of e-mail scams coming from an e-mail address purported to be that of the acting league chairman Neil Brinded. Please check the authenticity of the address if you are receiving e-mails from Neil before responding to it, and if it is bogus we would suggested deleting it. In general, the chairman will not contact you unless there are issues that you have raised directly with him.
