North Essex Cricket League

Everyone from Eight Ash Green CC would like to say a huge thank you to all the clubs and local community for all their help & support!

We were inundated with messages of support from locals and other cricket clubs such as: Gt Totham, Kelvedon & Elmstead CC. But special thanks must go to Copford Cricket Club who had a collection at their youth training on Saturday and raised £100 for repairs! Picture El Presidenté with James Wilson from Copford CC.

Parkers Pitches have also kindly donated some supplies for the repairs!

Again thank you so much,

From everyone at Eight Ash Green

Matthew Parker

Folks,

We have just received some great news that our Pavilion Redevelopment Project has been shortlisted in the Colchester Borough Council’s Big Choice scheme – see link - http://www.colchester.govuk/bigchoice

We are one of 8 projects on the larger project list to receive 4 grants of £20,000 – so we have a 50-50 chance!

It all however comes down to a public vote – similar to the Aviva fund – with voting opening today and ending on Friday 10th March.

Only residents of the Colchester Borough can vote and this is controlled by the voting process where you have to select your address from a dropdown menu via a postcode.

I have checked and you can register more than one vote from the same address, up to 5 in fact, so people should be able to vote a number of times using all of their families names and addresses. There is no age limit so all children, however old, can vote aswell with the same email address.

Please share the link on your Facebook and Twitter feeds and however else you think will help us get votes. More often than not it is best to share the voting link with friends on an instant messaging service (Whatsapp / Messenger / IMessage) so they simply click on the link on their phone and vote straightaway.

VOTE HERE - https://colchesteras.firmstep.com/default.aspx/RenderForm/?F.Name=m4pzC7tMXxN

Many thanks in anticipation of your support

Andrew Kennedy (Chairman)

Rob George, a talented cricketer who played for Colchester & East Essex CC, died last December, aged just 21, from acute myeloid leukaemia. A charity, The Rob George Foundation, has been set up in his memory to provide practical and/or financial support to young people with life-threatening or terminal illnesses. The attached flyer gives more details. The NECL has made a donation to the charity in memory of Rob. For further details of its work and how you can help, visit the Foundation's website: www.therobgeorgefoundation.co.uk.

Last June, Mel Hughes played his 1,000th match for West Mersea CC, a Piri Piri NECL Division Four game at home to Great Braxted & Tiptree CC on 9 June 2013. This significant achievement was duly reported (+ photograph) in a feature article on the back page of the Daily Gazette on 12 June 2013. It has now been recorded for posterity on page 1571 of the 2014 (151st) edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack: see below. Congratulations to Mel, and to West Mersea CC.
